Creatures of the Marsh Grass

Sun May 3, 2009, 11:49 AM
I just completed giving deeper color to Creatures of the Marsh Grass. This was done with prismacolor on the original. I moved the previous uploaded image to scraps so anyone who faved it can keep it if they like. I'm very happy with the results of the deeper color, most of which was added to the background. And I am framing it today. They have a half off sale on gold metal frames at the local discount art supply store and they also sell UV glass for a very good price. I am going matless with this piece.

I am lining up a new place to live. I will have more space and a small yard! I will be moving the middle of July. I am very happy about this.

I have about 950 Cranes complete. I can finish up in just a day or two anytime and may wait until I move so that the 1000 Cranes will coincide with my new home. They are in a large glass cylinder by my front door to help bring in good energy.

How did you keep count of all those cranes?

I didn't for the first 600 or so. Once I had a whole bunch I sat down one day and counted them. After that I made cranes in batches of 10 (10 or 20 at a time) and keep a scrap of paper with the cranes with the current number. When I am finished I think I will layer them in the jar, starting with brown patterns at the bottom, next green ones, blues, etc. probably ending with yellow or white patterns at the top. None of my cranes are solid color. It will be nice to finsih, but I have enjoyed making them (and it has taken many months).

I am in awe of the urge to do the 1,000. It might take me years to complete, but I suppose there really isn't any hurry to get that done is there?

When I started, the plan was to be finished in a year. It went really well that way. I also cut all of mine so that added extra time but was worth it to me to get so many neat patterns (quartering 6" origami paper or cutting squares from scrapbook paper or giftwrap). I don't remember when I started but I think I am a few months short of a year. I also played along the way making quite a few tiny tiny cranes from 1" paper (which I don't count as part of the 3" 1000) and yesterday I adapted a crane pattern trying to make a seahorse and got a strange dragon creature. Ha-Ha!! I was surprised it came out so well. Too bad I don't have a camera or I'd upload that one here.

It's strange but ever since my son started making cranes and now I hear about you doing it as well, I find a surprisingly stronger urge to begin as well :D

I'm thinking you need to get yourself a little digital camera....I would love to see that jar of cranes

Go for it! Make Cranes!!

Maybe I can borrow a friends camera. I want to wait until I have all 1000 arranged by color and by the front door of my new abode.

YAY! And I have checked out three videos on YouTube on how to fold them. It never occurred to me that three different people could explain it in three completely different ways :D Made me laugh!
