Artist's Comments

When I was drawing this knot I was not thinking of nor intending crows or elephants yet they appeared in the empty spaces. (The two elephants are highly symbolic and inside the knotwork at the bottom, one awake, one dreaming).

Ganesha is an elephant Hindu God known for removing obstacles.

Crows are highly intelligent birds whose 'mystical' significance has to do with being able to move between the worlds and is known as a messenger as well.

The thick blue knot is one continuous strand that takes the form of an Oroborus: a snake biting it's tail. The alchemical meaning of this ancient symbol varies, but has to do with infinity and wholeness, of integrating and assimilating opposites, of renewal and giving birth to the self.

The broken hearts are obvious. Or maybe not. It appears that the crows are creating a tear in the hearts. Yet a lucky four leaf clover lies at the center of the knot and inside of this is the sun.

A second strand takes the form of a vine with a flower on one end and the head of a happy dragon that breaths or exhales love on the other.

I didn't expect the background to be a dark night sky yet somehow it seems right. I carefully planned the main knot without knowing what I would put behind it.

An interesting combination of symbols and I don't know exactly what it all means. I enjoyed creating it.

Anyone have any intuitive thoughts on this?

I love the piece but most of all I love that it all has so much meaning. As an artwork it's beautiful, the rich color and contrast is perfect. At first I didn't see the elephants or crows but eventually I found them. This was a pleasure to view.

I wasn't thinking to use the negative spaces at all, but the crows were obvious and wanted to be seen, so I let them be crows. Soon after the elephants wanted to be there. Thank you for your comments.

It is very cool when the art takes over like that and just becomes what it's supposed to be. :)

This one is so rich in symbolism. I saw about half of them before I read the description, and that helped me to find the rest. It's beautiful and eerie. I love it.

Some pretty intense emotional stuff was going on when I drew this and I think it was trying to work itself out.

The way it did though, came out so powerful and universal. Beautiful. Great art can come out of the worst times in the artist's life.
