Thank you. I kept mine fairly simple (at least for me) to make sure it would be finished in time for the contest. I first penciled out a different animal outline for each of the eight points of the Compass Rose but realized I probably wouldn't get it done in time. So I used just one animal and didn't do much for the background. And then for the border I did something so simple it hardly even falls in the catagory of knotwork but it seemed to be the only thing that would fit with the rest without overwhelming it. I suppose had I tried I could have done a delicate knot but oh well. I guess I actually like the simple swirling.

I'm very interested in seeing what everyone else does for their Compass Rose. I'm glad you're entering the contest.

Um, I live in florida, and a better image should have been pine forests and cow pastures (trust me, they are all over florida!!)

I think yours is gorgeous. I'm worried that my ideas for mine may be more complicated than I'd like, but we shall see what happens :D I was looking VERY CLOSELY at some of the pages from the Book of Kells and there is a corner that has an interesting bit in it that I would like to include. I may have to take a macro shot of that corner to see it better and larger tho :D

The points on yours were a similar idea I had for mine, but not quite. I haven't decided yet on how to do those. Sighhhh, so little time!!! The sun will be out and the sky cloudless for the next four days so I'm wondering how much I will invest in drawing or cross stitch this week :D

I spent the first 20 years of my life in Mimai Florida. I know all about the cow pastures and pine forests. There is also lots of waterfowl and and ocean. Thanks for your comment. Do you live in north florida (and inland)?

I actually got my idea for the points from George Bains book, may have been something from the Book of Kells. I actually followed the pattern pretty closely though of course it wasn't on a compass rose and I adapted the shape. The center of the compass rose came out of my head. May the spirit of knotting be with you!

Fort Pierce, or really I should say Lakewood park, in the midst of the pine forests and cow pastures, 4 or so miles away from the ocean. I barely go to Hutchinson Island, so I barely see the "typical"florida
